Diffusion Tensor Imaging

By using DTI (diffusion tensor imaging) the movement of water molecules in the tissue is imaged. In strongly anisotropic tissues such as the white matter in the brain can be shown by further calculations nerve fiber patterns.The fiber tracking is already established at 1.5 Tesla MRI. By increasing the SNR at high fields like 3 and 7 Tesla MRI , the resolution and thus both the accuracy of the fiber patterns and the resolution of the functional measurements can be improved. This should bring potentially new insights for functional and anatomically linked areas.
