In research, IBMI develops new methods for bio-imaging and for the analysis and use of medical data in a multidisciplinary approach. In the context of scientific collaboration, IBMI provides its expertise and resources for biostatistics, the use of routine clinical data for research (at the Data integration Center, DIZ), GCP-compliant clinical data management, and the Trust Agency (THS).
The task of the Institute is to support medical and biological research with mathematical and statistical methods. Staff members focus on the planning, implementation, evaluation and interpretation of medical studies and experiments and in particular seek to increase the efficiency of examinations.
The computer scientists at the Institute focus on planning and building medical information systems and conceptual responsibility for e-learning and Grid Computing. The physicists and engineers of the Institute work in the field of magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy in the introduction, optimization and application of new methods. The electrical engineers simulate and develop novel receiver coils for MR.
